2011 Autodrop Invitational, Part VI: All Over but the Shoutin'

So, with our race done and Miss Sissy's celebration no longer needing the likes of the menfolk, Joooonyuh and I were free to revisit our friends at Bob's and find out how we fared.
By the time we got there, we already knew that those crafty killers at the City Loop Mafia had taken every point available and left the rest of us Yokels looking like dogs at the table, foraging for scraps.

So, as we checked in with folks the big news was there was points still to be calculated and drama was unfolding. Apparently, a band-of-brothers club team looked to upset Mark "Sasquatch" Hekman and his Cleveland Clinic pro team. That and some folks had done a river crossing. ...and someone lost his shoe.

That's all fine, but Tha Kuhnull and Joooonyuh were in need of sustenance! A quick stop for some sandwiches and drinks brought us back outside to see how the stories would tie together and end.

The genteel Mr. Barry called out the Yokel podium, from third to first. Lo and behold, Tha Kuhnull heard his and Joooonyuh's name straight away! It seems that those Miss Guided ladies has slipped a quick one past us and run into 2nd place. Well, the young master and I were so pleased with our own performance and were pert near exhausted that we were all smiles and nods to the round of applause we received. Now, it is no secret that Tha Kuhnull is no stranger to this calibre of adulation, but I spied Joooonyuh's cheeks begin to redden. He turned to me and asked, "It that the best result you've ever had racing, Daddy?" Sho enough, son. It is, shall we say, a lonely joy on an otherwise blighted parchment in Tha Kuhnull's keepsake tin. My eyes did water and Joooonyuh, being the gentleman he is, turned as not to see his father in such a tender moment.

The winners were, of course, those devious ruffians of the City Loop Mafia. Perhaps it should come as no surprise that the were not in attendance, given their mafioso tendency to never be where the local constabulary can count on finding you. I'm sure they'll send their request for their reward in an unmarked, brown bag...

The Open race was bitterly contested and, as the rumors had suggested, Team Saddleblock made small work of their professional brethren. All were able to laugh and smile, so it was as it should be.

The remainder of the evening was made up of regaling each other with tales of the trip and slaking our well-earned thirsts with age-appropriate beverages. Even Joooonyuh broke a family rule and enjoyed a Coca Cola after hours. No doubt, the tales will get taller as the months move on. It was, surely, a night to be remembered...

Two more things of note occurred that fine evening:
1. Mr. Barry made us aware that there had been a mis-representation of the placings and that Joooonyuh and I were, in actuality, the second place team. Though I could get no official to confirm it, I felt sure that the slight was a tactical move by the Mafioso to demoralize Tha Kuhnull. I can't believe any lady, however misguided, would try to pull the wool over Tha Kuhnull's eyes. Excepting, of course, the distractions that any lovely belle provides.

2. Joooonyuh and I were able to engage in contest of foosball skill against the very organizers who so brutally challenged the teams. Suffice it to say, when Joooonyuh is at the table, the were no prisoners. Here, I believe discretion is best.

So, what of it all? Was the Autodrop Invitational all it was wrapped up to be? Well, quite simply, yes. A rousing event that gathered cyclists of all abilities and allowed them to stretch to their content and revel in the joy of riding as much as in the pleasure of placing. There were many smiles and much laughter. The organizers have set the bar high in their freshman endeavor and it is both Joooonyuh and Tha Kuhnull's wish to see this fine assembly convene many more times in the future.

I say, well done!
